SARA'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Supported Affordable, Accessible Recreation Options and Park Space
  • Worked to secure the land needed to achieve HARD’s goal of a park within a 10-minute stroll or roll of every District resident’s home.
  • Expanded adaptive and inclusive recreation, including serving on HARD’s Inclusion Working Group
  • Supported the development of recreation programs for our diverse community.
  • Provided leadership for community-informed park and facility planning.​
  • Supported free swim lessons and continued pool access for all.
Ensured Environmental Justice, Good Resource Stewardship, and Preservation of Open Space
  • Advanced expansion and connectivity of trails throughout the District.
  • Supported environmental education at the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center, Sulphur Creek Nature Center, Community Gardens, and new Agricultural Center.
Devised Solutions for Now and for the Future
  • Supported investments in safe, high-quality parks and facilities throughout the District, including the creation of new parks and renovations to playgrounds, walking paths, bathrooms, and tennis, pickleball, and ping pong courts.
  • Served on HARD’s Finance, Capital Projects, Parcel Acquisition and Surplus Land, and Personnel committees as well as the Hayward Local Agencies Committee to develop policy, job descriptions, and partnerships that advance equity and belonging while protecting district assets and community services.
  • Served as HARD Board liaison to the Youth Commission, encouraging youth voice in District decision-making.​
